Discipline-specific accreditation is required for academic programs in which graduation from an accredited program is a prerequisite to achieving licensure or certification for professional practice. In other fields, discipline-specific accreditation recognizes that a program meets the quality improvement standards compared to non-accredited programs at other institutions.
